A stunning Trigon CX01 fitted out with BLKTEC parts finished off with Sram 1x11. Challenge Tyres keep it grippy and fast.
You'll find me riding or racing in... (hometown and racing grade)
A grade at the Huttcross Cyclocross Series in Upper Hutt, Wellington.
My riding/racing is supported by...
My biggest support is from my lovely wife & 2 daughters. They keep it real for me. I have a great group of sponsors, Trigon Bikes, BLKTEC components, Challenge Tires, Biomaxa bike care, Reactiv Supplements for nutrition and Get Fixed Bicycle Cafe for my wheel maintenance. Locally the Bike Shed & Velo Ronnys are always there to help out also which is always much appreciated.
In my day job I'm...
In the auto spraypaint industry, with a complete passion outside hours creating bike frame paint jobs as Velo.Creations Paintwork. My passion for bikes and trade knowledge plus a graphics interest combine together well to make bikes look cool for cool bike riders.
An interest I have outside of cycling is...
Catching up with our amazing friends and family adventures round our home town of Whanganui. An amazing place with a heap of adventures to be had.
What brought you to cyclocross?
We were living in Wellington and a bunch of cool cats set up a National Series round of CX up near Makara. Cowbells rang, I raced on my mountain bike -took me back to watching the pros in Belgium 2005. The next winter the obsession began for me out at Hüttcross!
What riding do you do aside from CX?
MTB, Road & Track were my main 3 codes which I started from an age of 11 - I chopped & changed between them all with great achievements. I still enjoy road riding sand mountain biking but have focused on cyclocross since 2013. Family life now is happily the main priority. CX racing is a short format, the season is short and I can train much less, so it fits our lifestyle perfectly.
What's your proudest achievement in CX?
I'd have to say 2019 NZ Nationals. I took the previous year off and 6 months out from the 2019 Nationals a good ol’ mate Malcolm mentioned he'd help me get down to the race, seeing as it was a UCI sanctioned event. This gave me motivation & to win the race, plus having an amazing battle with Nick Miller made it pretty incredible.
What's your CX strength?
I think my strength is I can start hard & be in control of the intensity. I like being in front to put others under pressure. I have always had the natural ability for short, hard & fast bike races.
What's your CX weakness?
Weakness? I feel it's cornering. I'm not slow but I like to be in full control so I don't lose more time from coming off.
How can we spot you on course?
Currently I am in the very nice Black & White NZ Champion kit. Very proud to wear this & represent cyclocross for New Zealand.
Should we offer you handups, and if so, when?
If it’s elimination racing in the summer heat like at Brewtown Foursome then bring it on, plenty of choices from those breweries!
