Worlds Watch - Finlay McRobbie

Welcome to Worlds Watch! The 2024 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships are fast approaching, and Australia will be sending its biggest ever team to the Czech city of Tábor to compete.

To help you get to know the members of the team who’ll be racing for the rainbow bands, we’ll be profiling each of the riders competing over the next week.

Our second rider profile is for Finlay McRobbie, a young rider from Western Australia who’ll be competing in the Junior Men’s race on Sunday February 4th.

Have you raced at Worlds before?

I have never competed at Worlds before, and so this will be my first one.

How are you feeling heading into worlds?

Overall I am very excited for CX Worlds which is about 2 weeks away now, what I am most excited about is probably being able to race in the Australian Team kit and being given the opportunity race at the pinnacle of the sport.

Tell us about your prep for worlds!

In terms of preparation into the race I was lucky enough to be able to do some rides with fellow WA rider Tristan Nash who is an absolute weapon on the CX bike which has been amazing. I’ve also undertaken several interval sessions to work on sprinting in and out of critical sections on CX courses.

What are you hoping to get out of your worlds experience?

I’m hoping to simply have a great time over there and for the experience of racing at such a high level, I am not setting any expectations on results as because it’s far better and healthier to be process driven as an athlete rather than outcome oriented.

How do we spot you on course?

In terms of trying to spot me out there I’ll probably somehow end up being the muddiest one out there!

Attending the world championships is expensive, so if you’d like to help Finlay cover his costs, you can donate to his fundraiser here: https://asf.org.au/projects/finlay-mcrobbie/cyclocross-world-championships
