Worlds Watch - Liam Cuthbertson

Welcome to Worlds Watch! The 2024 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships are fast approaching, and Australia will be sending its biggest ever team to the Czech city of Tábor to compete.

To help you get to know the members of the team who’ll be racing for the rainbow bands, we’ll be profiling each of the riders competing over the next week.

First up is Liam Cuthbertson, a young rider from Queensland who’ll be competing in the Junior Men’s race on Sunday February 4th.

Have you raced at Worlds before?

I have never competed at Worlds before, and so this will be my first one.

How are you feeling heading into worlds?

I’m feeling great heading into worlds, my power is at the highest it has ever been, and my skill on the bike is feeling like it's progressing quite nicely.

Tell us about your prep for worlds!

To prepare for worlds I am travelling to the Netherlands and racing in an X20 Trofee at Hamme, and the Hoogerheide World Cup. Most of my training leading up to this has been hard intervals on Zwift, with a few CX rides and longer road rides mixed in there.

What are you hoping to get out of your worlds experience?

I’m mostly hoping to get a great experience from worlds, racing on a course that I have been watching on TV for years and seeing MVDP race in person. If I can get to grips with the course and conditions a top 20 would be incredible.

How do we spot you on course?

To spot me on the course look out for a tall rider with a white helmet who is wearing glasses with a red lens.

Attending the world championships is expensive, so if you’d like to help Liam cover his costs, you can donate to his GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/2024-cyclo-cross-world-championships
